Manual Therapy

Better know as ‘hands on therapy’. This type of therapy includes kneading and the manipulation of muscles including joint mobilisation and manipulation.

When performing any type of physical activity you may start to feel robust and progressive. Over time you will feel tiredness and even weakness which decreases the muscles’ ability to sustain new levels. This is known as muscle fatigue, and it is your bodies way of communicating its need for rehabilitation. Manual therapy aims to promote freedom of movement by decreasing pain whilst increasing performance output.

Areas of the body which are commonly treated through different forms of manual therapy include the back and associated attachments (cervical, lumbar, thoracic and sacrum), shoulders, wrists, feet, ankles, knees, and hips.

Acute/sporting injuries are commonly treated with manual therapy when deemed appropriate by an assessor in order to reduce pain and improve functional movement.

Common acute injuries treated with manual therapy techniques include: ankle sprains/tears, calf and hamstring tears, adductor tendinopathy, ACL & PCL injuries, shoulder pathology, patella dislocations and fractures, ‘anterior’ knee pain, medial and collateral knee ligaments, fractures/ dislocations, concussion/whiplash injuries, achillies issues.
